Maple Leaf to sell Ontario pork plant, company to shift focus

Maple Leaf is preparing to sell its primary pork processing plant in Burlington, Ontario, according to the company on last week.

The plant processes more than 2 million pigs a year but the rising Canadian dollar and grain prices have made the pork business unprofitable.

Maple Leaf is currently undergoing a five-year restructuring to leave its pork export business and to shift the company's focus from primary protein operations to value-added meat and meals.
