Estonia's meat and egg consumption declines in 2006
Estonia consumed an average 69.5 kilograms of meat and 158 eggs in 2006, marking a decline compared with 70.1 kilograms of meat and 173 eggs in the year before.
On the average, Estonia consumed 33.6 kilograms of pork, 14 kilograms of beef and 17.7 kilograms of poultry per person in 2006.
Overall, Estonia produced 71,400 tonnes and consumed 93,500 tonnes of meat in 2006. In 2005, the respective amounts were 69,700 tonnes and 94,500 tonnes.
Last year's meat imports were 50,600 tonnes and exports at 19,600 tonnes. An increase occurred in both the import and the export of meat.
Estonia's pork production in 2006 totalled 39,900 tonnes compared with 39,600 tonnes in the year before while beef is at 15,700 tonnes from the previous year's 13,400 tonnes, poultry output by 12,800 tonnes from yearago's 13,700 tonnes, and mutton and goat meat output 500 tonnes.
The output of eggs totaled 11,200 tonnes, down from 13,100 tonnes in the year before.
