EU to accept future meat exports from Moldova

Ilian Kostov, representative of the European Commission, confirmed the new regulations at a workshop regarding Moldova's food security issues, and it is expected that Moldova can export meat to the EU in three years' time.

According to Kostov, about 10 specialised companies of Moldova will acquire a right to export meat to the EU states by 2014. In his turn, the Deputy Director of the Agency for Veterinary Sanitary and Animal Origin Products Safety Grigorii Porcescu said Moldovan companies are already working on this problem.

Laboratories used to check only a part of meat, but now the whole production is subject to the laboratory control. In addition, Grigorii Porcescu said the EU and the World Bank had provided financial support to Moldova to equip laboratories checking quality of meat.
