Stomach ulcers found in 12 percent of Swedish pigs
A study by Swedish veterinary researchers has found that 11.6 percent of Swedish pigs have stomach ulcers.
About 3,858 pig stomachs were studied, and half of them have some form of stomach disorder. Incorrect feed has been cited as one of the main reasons for the disorders.
Stomach ulcers are present in most herds and are associated with stressful housing conditions; poor environment; poor management; overcrowding; excessive confinement; or the use of diets that are high in energy, low in fibre, finely-ground, pelleted feeds.
