Israeli cattle suffers from FMD outbreak

There have been two outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Hazafon, according to the Israeli veterinary authorities.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Thursday (Apr 28). The affected population consists of 9-12 month old fattening calves (the lesions were severe ulcers in gums and tongue, salivation and limping) and beef cattle (six cows with salivation and limping).

A total of 770 animals were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 41 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.
