China's vitamin oversupply leads to production curbs
The government of China has announced plans to limit the manufacture and future development of certain pharmaceutical products including vitamins.
This is due to limiting overproduction and to reduce environmental degradation. It includes various foodgrade and feedgrade vitamins.
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China have issued a list of products - vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B12 and vitamin E (for pharmaceutical, food and feed use) – that would be affected by such measures.
The NDRC and China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have placed a cap on the 2011 production quota for vitamin C at 100,000 tonnes lower than the 2010 quota, as based on a recent report in the Shanghai Securities Journal.
