Japan increases demand for processed chicken

Japanese demands for processed chicken meat from Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF) rose by 20-25%, due to the recent natural disaster.

In the wake of the March earthquake and tsunami disaster, Japan has seen an urgent need for instant and processed food imports from other countries. According to Teerasak Urunanon, Executive Vice President of CPF's Food Integrated Business Unit, the company's export of processed cooked chicken meat to Japan had grown by 20-25%. This yearly volume is expected to reach 27,000 tonnes worth THB5.4 billion (US$179 million), as opposed to 22,000 tonnes from last year.

Japan's market has the highest export potential for CPF as it accounts for up to 80% of its exports to the entire ASEAN region, with investments in the quality and safety standards of its Thai products.

CPF also provided 25 tonnes of Japanese-style deep-fried chicken worth THB5 million (US$0.17 million) to Japan, for distribution to victims of the natural disaster.
