South Africa's corn output seen to rise 9.1%
South African corn production may rise 9.1 percent this year after farmers increased planting, a unit of the USDA said.
Production in the marketing year that began May 1 will rise to 13.709 million tonnes, the second-highest ever and up from 12.567 million tonnes a year earlier, according to the USDA report.
Exports may double to four million tonnes, while domestic use could rise 3.2% to 10.07 million tonnes because of lower prices, according to the report.
Production next year may fall to 12.525 million tonnes on lower planted acreage and yields, according to the report. Exports may fall to 2.5 million tonnes in the marketing year that will begin May 1, 2011.
