Canada H1N1 influenza cases up by 16 to 101
Canada's confirmed cases of the Type A/H1N1 influenza virus has risen to 101, officials from the country's health ministry said Sunday (May 3).
Minister of Health Leona Aglukkaq and Chief Public Health Officer David Butler-Jones announced 16 new laboratory confirmed cases, up from 85, a statement on the ministry's website said. It also released new guidelines for schools, day care centres, and for those caring for the sick at home, the website said.
It said there was no need to close schools and day care centres at this point because of the mild nature of the illness experienced by those affected by H1N1 flu virus in Canada.
Nearly 900 people have been sickened by the virus in 18 countries.
