China to suspend Canada's pig imports
                                   Â
China would suspend imports of pigs or relevant pork products from Alberta of Canada, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Sunday (May 3).
     Â
The decision was made after some pigs in the province of Alberta had been found to be infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus last Saturday (May 2).
Â
Pigs and pork products that arrive in China after the declaration would be destroyed while those sent to China before Saturday would have to pass H1N1 tests to ensure their safety.
Â
Meanwhile, passengers are not allowed to bring pigs or relevant products into China and no such products would be allowed to be mailed to the country, according to the announcement.
Â
The announcement added that transport vehicles from the affected areas would be quarantined.
