USDA's US Export Sales report showed pork net sales of 8,000 tonnes for 2013, down from last week's report of 12,200 tonnes.
Sales to Mexico dropped from 6,800 tonnes last week to 3,200 tonnes this week. Other primary destinations for pork include Japan (1,100 tonnes), Hong Kong (1,000 tonnes), Canada (900 tonnes), and Ukraine (600 tonnes). Exports of 7,300 tonnes were primarily to Mexico (3,100 tonnes), Canada (1,100 tonnes), Japan (1,000 tonnes), South Korea (400 tonnes), and Hong Kong (400 tonnes).
Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) lean hog followed through modestly upon their strong Tuesday gains on Wednesday (Apr 24). These gains continued overnight into Thursday (Apr 25). June hog futures increased US$0.37 to US$0.93/pound in early Thursday electronic trading, while December futures edged up US$0.10 to US$0.79.
