Uruguay's fish exports up by 20% in 2011
 

 

The most traded fish species, within Uruguay, are white-mouth croaker, hake, blue shark, sea trout, squid and deep-sea red crab.

 

Total fisheries exports last year reached 102.478 tonnes equivalent to US$236 million, with an average ton price of US$2.305. This compares favourably to the 85.601 tonnes and US$193.4 million in 2010 with an average ton value of US$2.259.

 

Brazil was the main market for Uruguay fish exports with 20.728 tonnes and US$51 million; Nigeria followed with 18.751 tonnes and US$32.75 million; China 10.000 tonnes and US$19.8 million; Italy, 7.026 tonnes and US$30.6 million; Cameroon, 6.641 tonnes and US$10 million and Spain with 3.801 tonnes and US$13.37 million dollars.
