Global markets
FOB prices of Peruvian prime grade fishmeal surged to around US$1,680/tonne.
The proportion of small fish is on the high side, indicating that the fish catch this year might be limited.
Market analysis
Feed producers increased purchases, expediting the releases of port inventories. Prices of FAQ fishmeal remained unchanged but those of super grade fishmeal have surged to the range of RMB10,100-10,200/tonne, higher by RMB200 compared with the previous week, as import costs increased.
Meanwhile, overall port inventory of fishmeal in China was at 260,000 tonnes.
Market forecast
Traders will be tempted to lift prices in the coming weeks as demand continues to grow while imports are limited. With aquaculture production gaining traction, fishmeal prices are expected to rise gradually.
