Sweden has no intentions to provide subsidies to pork producers

The Swedish government is not planning for any immediate measures to support the pork producing sector.

Minister for Rural Affairs Eskil Erlandsson does not want to give any promises at all to Swedish pork producers, severely hit by crisis. Instead, he refers to investigations and discussions that are going on.

Subsidies via the government's budget are seen as unrealistic, and other types of subsidies must be approved by the EU.

Farmer association LRF claims that the government is using delaying tactics for an application to the EU about an animal protection premium via the EU's Rural Development Programme.
