Brazil's Excelencia seeks to slaughter 8,000 pigs daily by 2010

Brazilian slaughterhouse Excelencia aims to increase its daily pig slaughter from the current 3,000 pigs to 8,000 in 2010, the company's general manager Vasco Bedim said.

This development will likely boost the central-western Mato Grosso slaughterhouse's  annual revenue to US$250 million (183.4 million euro).

Excelencia currently exports 70 percent of its pork output and the planned increase in slaughter is due to the surge in demand for domestic pork consumption in Brazil.

The company's main exporting destination is Russia, who at the moment only accepts pork from Mato Grosso and Rio Grande do Sul while maintaining its ban from other Brazilian states due to foot-and-mouth-disease.

On the local front, southeastern Sao Paulo state is Excelencia's biggest buyer.
