Scottish beef exports hits GBP 12 million
A year after the lifting of the export ban on Scottish beef, Scotland has managed to export 4,000 tonnes of beef, worth GBP 12 million.
Two-thirds of the trade has been in prime beef, with the balance coming from beef cattle.
The main markets were France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy. Ten Scottish meat companies have been involved in the export trade. Although cattle producers applaud the achievement, it is still a long way from pre-ban levels, when Scotland exported GBP 120 million a year.
