Two more poultry farms in UK test positive for bird flu

H7N3 bird flu, a less serious strain of virus, has been confirmed in two more poultry farms near Dereham, Norfolk after the first case broke out last week in the same area. The preliminary results indicate H7N3, but further tests are being carried out.

The two free range flocks were slaughtered and a restricted zone has been put in place extending 1km from each of the infected premises. The State Veterinary Service is tracing movements and contacts. The necessary surveillance and all protection measures have been put in place, said Debby Reynolds, Chief Veterinary Officer.

Authorities said further premises other than the two poultry farms may be affected as well. Officials are investigating whether there any links or movements between the two suspect farms and the confirmed premises.
