New Zealand's meat trade to China rises

China has moved further ahead of Britain as the biggest single sheep meat market by volume, after overtaking it late last year.

This was shown by the figures compiled by the Meat Industry Association.

Last month it also topped the UK by value as well.

Association chief executive Tim Ritchie says the rise in beef exports to China this year has been even more spectacular, tripling in value to almost US$38 million.

In contrast, beef shipments to Indonesia have fallen to 20% of where they were in 2010.
