Belarus looks on to US$100-million meat processing investment

"In the near future, we will have talks with the big Lithuanian meat producer who is ready to invest around US$100 million in the development of the Belarusian meat processing industry," Semyon Shapiro said.

The sides will consider various alternatives of the cooperation including the creation of a joint company in Belarus.

The minister noted that Belarus has meat-packing plants that process 50-60 thousand tonnes of meat per year. "We will modernise these plants by means of the European equipment," the official noted.

The Minister for Agriculture and Food also noted that Belarus intends to construct a new sugar mill. At present, Belarus is looking for an investor for this project and the new technologies which can be used for sugar production.
