US poultry production value up 24 percent on-year
The total value of poultry production in 2007 was US$32 billion, up 24 percent from US$25.8 billion in 2006, according to the USDA.
For 2007, broilers accounted for about 67 percent or US$21.4 billion of the total value. Eggs represented 21 percent or US$4.4 billion while non-broiler chickens made up 1 percent or US$50.8 million.
Turkeys accounted for 12 percent or US$3.7 billion.
However, it was egg production that had the biggest increase, up 51 percent from 2006. Broiler production grew 21 percent on-year and turkey was up 4 percent. Non-broiler chicken production was down 6 percent.
