National Feedlot Centre seen to boost meat output in Malaysia

The Malaysian Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry has allocated RM40 million (US$11.69 million) to establish the National Feedlot Centre in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, aimed to enhance the country's national meat production.

Parliamentary Secretary to the ministry Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said Malaysia currently produces 20 percent of the national meat requirement and the construction of the centre is expected to increase meat production by 40 percent.

The secretary said the ministry plans to build more establishments of this kind to reduce Malaysia's dependence on imported meat.
