Kazakhstan targets to produce 20,000 tonnes of chicken annually

Aimed at producing broiler chicken in the Akmola region, the Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Asylzhan Mamytbekov discussed the implementation of the JSC Akmola Phoenix construction project.

Installation work of leading European equipment is currently being carried out in all facilities of the enterprise. The investment will amount to KZT12 billion (US$66 million). It is planned for production of up to 20,000 tonnes per year.

Poultry industry is one of the most developed field in Kazakhstan's livestock faming at present. This sector is represented by 59 operating poultry farms, some 21 of which engage in the production of broiler meat, 33 egg-laying and five combined enterprises.

Due to the commissioning of new production facilities and increasing of the production capacities at the poultry farms, the volume of poultry meat production is gradually increasing in the country, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry's report said.

Broiler chicken production increased by more than 10% to 128,300 tonnes in 2013. This was contributed by the implementation of new investment projects. Some five new poultry enterprises for production of broiler meat have been commissioned in Kazakhstan over the past five years. Thus, the share of imported products has been reduced from 70% to 55%.
