Technical commission for integrated production of pig meat established in Brazil

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) has established the Pig Meat Integrated Production Technical Committee with the aim of developing the technical regulations for the Integrated specific Production (IP) of pig meat.

With the new regulations, companies and farmers will be entitled to use the internationally-recognised "Brazil Certified" seal, with the guarantee of the Metrology, Quality, and Technology National Institute (INMETRO).

Integrated production is an agricultural production system based on good agricultural practices that guarantees environmental preservation, and the health and welfare of the animals. The MAPA, in conjunction with several organisations, is preparing integrated production regulations for milk, honey, and pig meat, among other products.

Participating in the PI is voluntary and participants will have to obey the requirements of the Specific Technical Regulation (NTE) set down by the Pig Meat Integrated Production Technical Committee. The committee will be appointed by the Agricultural Development and Cooperative Movement Secretary (SDC) of the MAPA, Caio Rocha.

Rocha, explained that when applying for the certification, the farmers will be audited by companies authorised by INMETRO, and will receive the "Brazil Certified" seal that guarantees top quality product upon satisfactory audit.
