Canada 2009-10 oilseed output to decrease 15.1 million tonnes

Assuming a return to normal yields, total Canadian oilseed production for 2009-10 is forecast to decline by 15.1 million tonnes from 16.1 million tonnes from yearago, reports the US Department of Agriculture.

Major Canadian oilseed is composed of canola, soy and sunflower seed.

Higher profitability due to tight oilseed supplies globally and a continued strong demand is likely to result to an increased canola acreage in expense of wheat. The USDA also reports that high carry-in stocks in canola and soy are expected to offset production decreases, resulting in supplies similar to 2008-09 levels. Increased crush capacity and a continued strong world food and biofuel demand for canola oil will draw down canola stocks in 2009-10. On the other hand, sunflower seed production is expected to increase by 3 percent.
