Angola firm to boost meat production
The Cooperative of Cattle-Breeders of the South of Angola (CCGSA) will this year invest US$25 million to upgrade technical assistance and equip cattle production areas in a bid to boost meat production.
The project comes under a programme that develops activities in the provinces of Huila, Namibe and Cunene.
CCGSA director-general Alvaro Fernandes said the amount will be granted by the Foment Bank of Angola (BFA) through a credit line, and will be used to construct a slaughterhouse in Lubango city and butcheries in the provinces of Huila and Luanda.
The project includes the supply of technical services to members through mobile teams, and involves the contracting of personnel specialising in various cattle breeding areas for a direct service to farmers.
The intention is to increase meat supply to Angola's main markets, and to reduce the country's reliance on imports.
This year, the cooperative hopes to establish partnerships with cattle breeders in Angola and from other African countries for sharing experiences, said Fernandes.
