The price of broiler chicken has increased between 40 cents and 60 cents per kg across Malaysia.

The price of live chicken, at ex-farm price, increased to MYR3.80 per kg from MYR3.40, while wholesale price increased to MYR4.50 per kg from MYR4.10, according to a price list issued Tuesday (Apr 28) by the Federation of Livestock Farmers' Associations of Malaysia (FLFAM).

The retail price for live chicken is MYR5.20 per kg, up from MYR4.80.

Wholesale price for dressed chicken has increased to MYR5.30 per kg from MYR4.85, while retail price (with shank, head, liver and gizzard) has moved up to MYR6.15 per kg from MYR5.65.

Price of dressed chicken without shank, head, liver and gizzard is MYR6.90 per kg from MYR6.30 per kg.

Retail price of dress chicken without shank, head, liver and gizzard with the Veterinary Health Mark certificate increased 60 cents to MYR7.60 per kg.

FLFAM broiler chicken unit chairman Kwei Yew Tong attributed the price increase to the current hot weather, which affected chicken rearing.
