FDA approves Bayer's antibiotics for swine

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved Baytril 100 Injectable Solution, an antimicrobial antibiotic, made by Bayer Animal Health which is for use in swine.

Baytril 100 claims to eliminate all four major bacteria that cause swine respiratory disease. Baytril 100 works with just one subcutaneous injection since it is concentration-dependent instead of time-dependent. It has been used in cattle since its introduction in 1998.

Dr. Cary Christensen, Senior Director,...said: '' Food Animal Products Business Unit at Bayer Animal Health said Baytril 100 will give swine producers and veterinarians access to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics ".

This product can only be used by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
