Russia bans pork imports from US states and Mexico

Russia is banning pork imported from Mexico and a number of US states, in response to the swine flu that has hit both countries.

The Russian government imposed the pork and meat ban Sunday (Apr 26) after reports the flu had spread to several US states.

Arizona, California, Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Florida and Central American countries are all part of the pork ban.

The flu is a strain of swine, bird and human flu and has hit Mexico hard, killing at least 103 people.

There are no cases in Arizona, but the strain has shown up in San Diego, Imperial County, California, New York City, Ohio, Texas and Kansas.
