Brazil soy area seen steady in 2009-10
Brazilian Agribusiness Association, or Abag, on Monday (April 27) said Brazil should maintain its soy area in the 2009-10 crop year compared to 2008-09, local news service Estado reported.
The country's soy production could fall, however, due to tighter credit leading to less technology being used, such as fertilizers, Estado reported Carlos Lovatelli, president of Abag, as saying at a conference.
Brazil is expected to harvest 58.1 million tonnes of soy, from 21.6 million hectares in 2008-09, the National Commodities Supply Corp., or Conab, said this month.
Abag was unavailable for further comment.
Brazil is the world's No.2 soy producer after the US.
