Proposal to stop fish dumping at sea

Struan Stevenson, former chairman of the European Parliament's fisheries committee is proposing to end the annual dumping of more than one million tonnes of fish by EU vessels.

In his report, he has called for catches to be landed and turned into fishmeal and fish oil that could help meet the increasing demand from Europe.

Under current policy, EU fishing boats have to dump at sea more than a million tonnes a year of over-quota and undersized fish.
