South Korea targets US$21-million exports at European Seafood Expo

South Korean producers will attempt to secure US$21.41 million worth of seafood export orders at Europe's largest seafood event planned for this week in Brussels, the government said Sunday (Apr 25).

The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said 10 local companies will attend the European Seafood Exposition 2010 to highlight the country's fresh, canned and ready-made products and hold tasting events.

The South Korean companies will display 24 products, including fresh tuna fillets, flounder, seasoned mackerel, dried laver and short-necked clams.

The three-day seafood show, which begins today (Apr 27) at Belgium's Brussels Exhibition Centre, is the largest seafood event in the world. Exhibitors from over 140 countries in North America, Europe and Asia will gather to showcase every category of seafood products including fresh, canned, frozen and value-added seafood. Storage, processing and handling equipment as well as a host of seafood related services including freight handling, insurance and information technology will also be featured during the event.
