Russia marks steady growth in poultry sector in Q1

Russia's poultry sector has developed steadily in the first quarter of 2009, with poultry meat production up 65 percent on-year.

For the first two months of 2009, Russia's poultry imports decreased 38.5 percent on-year, and were down 46.6 percent on-year for the first quarter, but the increase in production has offset the effects of lower imports.

Poultry production costs continue to increase, but with lower feed but higher poultry prices, cost effectiveness is within grasp.

While demand has increased as the world economic crisis turned consumers' attention from red meat to the cheaper poultry meat, saturation in Russia indicated that prices have reached its limit high and further growth is nearly impossible.
