Czech Republic reports five more cases of H5N1

Another five cases of the deadly H5N1 bird flu have been reported in the Czech Republic, an official said Wednesday (Apr 26).

A lab in Prague detected the deadly strain in five dead swans found in the south of the country, state veterinary authority spokesman Josef Duben said.

So far, some 2,300 dead birds and poultry have been tested for the virus in the Czech Republic and the H5N1 strain was found in 12 of them--all swans from the same region, Duben said.
