Cherkizovo Group's Q1 poultry sales up 42%, pork 12%

On the back of acquisitions and new facilities launch, Russia's Cherkizovo Group's January-March poultry sales jumped 42% on year and pork sales rose 12%, the company said in a statement Wednesday (Apr 25).

"Such growth became possible thanks to the launch of new poultry sites in the Bryansk poultry production block, as well as to the sales of Mosselprom firm, acquired in May 2011," Cherkizovo said.

Cherkizovo sold around 75,860 tonnes of finished poultry products in January-March, it said.

Pork production in January-March almost reached 22,660 tonnes of pork in live weight.

Meat processing declined 12% to around 29,115 tonnes in the reporting period, mostly due to the suspension of an inefficient slaughter plant in the Southern Russia's city of Labinsk.

In January-March, the average price for poultry fell 1% to US$2.40 per kilogramme. The average price for pork rose 4% to US$2.66 per kilogramme, and price for meat products edged up 10% to around US$4.75 per kilogramme.

Cherkizovo comprises seven meat processing plants, four poultry producing complexes, two poultry processing plants, 10 pig farms, and two feed stuff plants, as well as trading houses.
