Japan to aggressively seek out new seafood markets

The Japanese government is encouraging its seafood exporters to take advantage of trade liberalisation and the growing worldwide boom in Japanese food.

With domestic seafood prices faltering, retailers should look to overseas markets like Europe and the US where Japanese food is favoured as a healthier alternative, and Asia where it is valued as luxury items.

Further, free trade agreements and other recent negotiations by Tokyo would help boost exports overseas.
