China sees 2012 bumper summer grain crop

According to the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday (Apr 23), for the 2012 summer grain, China is likely to get bumper harvest given the estimated increase of winter wheat planting area and better-than-normal growing conditions of wheat crops.

The ministry projected that the country's winter wheat acreage would reach 22.67 million hectares in 2012, up 50,000 hectares over last year.

Meanwhile, the wheat crops are growing better than in normal years and the soil moisture is the best since 2002.

The MOA also predicted that early rice planting area would pick up this year after two-year decline thanks to the government's supportive policies.

China's summer grain mainly includes wheat and early rice, making up over 20% of the full year's production.
