Indonesian minister urges expansion of poultry industry
Indonesia has been self-sufficient in poultry meat and eggs for years but the growth of the domestic poultry industry has remained stagnant, said agriculture minister Anton Apriyantono on Wednesday.
Indonesian poultry producers should start looking at oversea markets instead of focusing only on domestic demand, according to Apriyantono.
Apriyantono acknowledged that the spread of bird flu has affected the development of the poultry industry and that a solution must be found.
He added that the agriculture ministry would encourage and assist anyone who is interested in developing the domestic poultry industry.
