Ukraine updates pig, chicken, cattle and sheep numbers
 

The number of pigs in Ukraine on Apr 1 totalled 8.3 million, 11 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee said Wednesday.

Poultry numbers on Apr 1 was 155 million, an increase of 3 percent compared with Apr 1, 2006.

Cattle numbers in the country on Apr 1 registered 6.7 million, a fall of 6 percent compared with Apr 1, 2006. The number of cows fell by 8 percent to 3.3 million.

The number of sheep and goats fell by 1 percent on-year to 2 million.

In the last few years, a number of serious investors have entered the country's pork and poultry markets, and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading existing facilities and creating new ones.
