Perdue issues recall for cooked chicken

US poultry processing giant Perdue recalled more than 20,600 pounds of chicken that was  possibly undercooked, according to a USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) press release.

The release said the products were made at Perdue's plant in Monterey, Tennessee. The chicken breast fillets were produced on Jan 20, 2006, and Mar 4, 2006, and shipped to foodservice distribution centres in 10 US states.

Consumers alerted authorities after discovering the problem.

FSIS classified the health risk of the product as "High." However, FSIS said it has not received any reports of illnesses resulting from consumers eating those products.

The products subject to the recall are the 10-pound cases, consisting of two five-pound bags of fully cooked "Perdue, Breaded Chicken Breast Fillet with Rib Meat" and also 10-pound bags of fully cooked "Chef Quik, Breaded Chicken Breast Fillet with Rib Meat."
