France's poultry sector to form industry union
France's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Stéphane Le Foll, and Minister of State for Food, Guillaume Garot, have developed a plan for the future for the local poultry sector.
The Inter-ministerial Delegate for Agribusiness and Agro-industries, Alain Berger, presented the results of his mission conducted in the autumn of 2012.
The biggest challenge facing the industry is to consolidate a common strategy, according to the ministry.
Hence, the sector will establish an inter poultry meat body which involves the whole industry and includes the distribution and food-service sectors. The initiative is developed towards a cohesion strategy while maintaining standard local production for the domestic and export markets.
"We must create a genuine collective dynamics and real solidarity between all links in the sector, for the benefit of all," said Le Foll.
The French agriculture minister also set out a four stage programme for the industry which the government will support. The programme includes the modernisation of farms and the strengthening of relationships between the slaughter and processing sectors.
