US frozen meat supplies rise 4% from 2012
Overall figures for frozen red meat supplies had risen 3% from the previous month and up 4% from 2012, as of March 31, 2013, according to USDA's monthly Cold Storage report.
Total pounds of frozen beef were up 5% from the previous month and up 2% from last year. Frozen pork supplies were up 2% from the previous month and up 6% from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 20% from last month but down 22% from last year.
Total frozen poultry meat supplies on March 31 were down 2% from the previous month but up 7% from a year ago.
Total stocks of chicken were down 4% from the previous month but up 8% from last year.
Total pounds of frozen turkey were up 2% from last month and up 7% from March 31, 2012.
