Nicaragua shrimp production seen to increase 13 percent
The government of Nicaragua estimates an increase in the domestic production of shrimp by 13 percent during 2009 as compared to 2008, when production reached 30 million pounds.
According to official data, exports of shrimp reached US$56 million, while the production of lobster amounted to 2.8 million pounds and exports reached US$40 million.The US is the main destination for Nicaragua seafood exports.
According to Centro de Tramites de las Exportaciones (CETREX), exports of seafood reached US$165.1 million in 2008 against US$156.6 million in 2007.
