Irish seafood sales up 6 percent in 2007

In 2007, Irish seafood sales increased by 6 percent to EUR 806 million (US$1.27 billion) from EUR 778 million (US$1.23 billion) in 2006.

Ireland exported EUR 360 million (US$570.6 million) worth of seafood products last year.

Irish Sea Fisheries Board, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) said the rise in trade is due to the consumers' growing awareness of the health benefits that seafood could bring.
