Brazil's new soy crop 80 percent harvested

 

 

Brazil's 2007-08 soy crop was 80 percent harvested as of April 22, farm consultancy AgRural said Wednesday (April 23, 2008).

 

AgRural estimated that Brazilian soy growers planted 22.18 million hectares of soy this season and will harvest 63 million tonnes.

 

The No. 1 soy producer state, Mato Grosso, has harvested all of its crop, estimated to be around 17.1 million tonnes. No. 2 Parana has harvested 92 percent of its crop, estimated to come in at 13.1 million tonnes and No. 3 Rio Grande do Sul has harvested half of its estimated 9.8 million tonne crop.

 

Brazil is the No. 2 soy producer behind the US.
