Cal-Maine in joint acquisition of egg assets

Two companies have jointly acquired poultry producer George's Inc's assets of its egg shell division in Arkansas.

Poultry producer Cal-Maine, together with Country Creek Farms, an egg marketing company would own and operate the facility. Cal-Maine, the majority owner would run the facility under Benton County Foods, Cal-Maine's newly formed company.

The assets to be acquired include one million laying hens, growing facilities for replacement pullets and a feed mill in Oklahoma.

Fred Adams, Jr., chairman and CEO of Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., said George's egg operations have an excellent reputation and a well-established customer base.

The acquisition would complement the company's existing operations and allow it to be more efficient while better servicing the company's customers in the south central part of the country.
