In order to avoid catching the deadly disease that has so far killed dozens of people in Asia, the Rwanda Agricultural Board (RAB) officials have urged poultry farmers to report any new signs and symptoms of bird flu in their poultry farms as well as maintain hygiene.

The remarks were made on weekend during a meeting between RAB officials and poultry farmers, under the Association of Poultry Farmers, aimed at increasing awareness on the avian influenza H7N9.

"You should report to us any strange signs singled out; and all measures to prevent our birds from any virus must be respected at this time," said Isidore Gafarasi, the director of veterinary services at RAB.

Signs and symptoms of bird flu virus to a human being include fever, cough, and shortness of breath that eventually leads into loss of life.
