Tyson to consolidate prepared foods business

Tyson Foods has announced its intention to consolidate some of its prepared foods business.

Production at the York, Nebraska plant will be discontinued on or before June 17, and its work will be moved to the other meat-processing operations under the company.

The company is seeking more efficient operating methods due to the current dynamics of the meat business, according to Roy Slaughter, vice president of Tyson's poultry and prepared foods division.

Tyson has decided after careful consideration that it is more efficient for another larger operation to absorb the work at York, Slaughter said.

The York plant produces uncooked meats as well as sliced beef and pork items for various retail and foodservice customers. Some of the plant's equipment will be moved to the recently restructured meat processing facility in Emporia, Kansas.
