Ontario to plant less soy and corn as wheat dominates acreage
Ontario farmers are expected to plant less corn and soy this year as winter wheat acreage is up considerably, Statistics Canada said.
The first planting intentions report indicates that as winter wheat is significantly up, there would be fewer acres left for the other crops.
Only around two-thirds of the country's 3 million acres is to be planted with corn this year, a 12-percent drop from 2007, the statistics report said.
Soy acreage in Ontario is also expected to be down by 6 percent this year, with about 2.1 million acres planted.
