Northern China sees increased grain planting
China's three northern provinces, namely, Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning, plan to expand total grain planting area by 146,000 hectares to 18.2 million ha in 2008, corresponding agricultural authorities said.
The three northeastern provinces are considered the key commodity grain production bases in China, with farmland area hitting 20 million ha, accounting for 16 percent of China's total.
In 2007, the three provinces' total grain output reached 83.1 billion kilogrammes last year, comprising 16.6 percent of China's total.
