High expenses hit meat sales in France
Spending survey in France shows that meat sales are being battered by rises in other cost of living expenses, according to a study by the French meat organisation SNIV.
The industry group says that electricity, water, gas, insurance, credit repayments, transport and rent are increasing at twice the rate of other household expenditures which takes up 33 percent of incomes compared to 29 percent in 2000.
Meat consumption has thus been affected, according to SNIV.
The consequence affected consumers are the 35-44 year old age group and couples with children.
The Centre for Strategic Analysis shows that single parent families and young people have also been hit by inflation since 2000, four points above the national average and for those living in Paris, by seven points.
At the same time consumers have reduced the amount they are spending on beef during this same period, SNIV says.
